Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located in the Wu No. 2 borehole of the Wurhe area 80 km to the northeast of Klamayi City, Xinjiang. It was named by the Xinjiang Petroleum Administration in 1958, and was cited officially by the Compiling Group for the Regional Stratigraphic Chart of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.


Lithology and Thickness

Conglomerate. Representing interbeds of grey-green and grey conglomerates and black siltstone, intercalated with thin coal seams, with the gravels being cemented by clayey substance. From west to east its thickness is charging in a range of 53 to 1295 m.

Lower contact

Conformable contact with its underlying Xiazijie Fm

Conformable contact with its overlying Shangwurhe Fm

Regional extent

Distributed in the Xiazijie-Wurhe region to the northeast of Klamayi City on northwestern margin of the Jungghariya.

Fossils

Yields spore-pollen fossils represented by the Cordaitina-Hamiapollenites-Striatoabietites assemblage, which is close to that of the Lucaogou Fm-Hongyanchi Fm (which are mid-Early Permian according to Shuzhong Shen et al., 2019, Permian stratigraphy and timescale of China).

Depositional setting

It is interpreted as an alluvial facies of coarse clastic deposits, but in the Xiazijie region it represents river-swampy facies deposits. On the margins of the basin it represents lake-facies deposits.
